Vision & Mission

Vision:

The vision of the department is to create a centre of learning, through various means of teaching, learning, research and engagement with community to develop tools to study and analyse various socio-political phenomena. This shall enable the department in facilitating a meaningful engagement and dialogue within society to build a more equal, free and peaceful society.

Mission:

The mission of the department is to build and expand academic scholarship of all members of the department through research and innovative pedagogy that will enable a closer, critical and creative engagement of the department with the unfolding social, political and economic processes in society.

Brief Profile (Establishment Year Political Science is 1995 )

The department of political science and public administration was established in 1995 at IEHE. The department seeks to advance the science of politics and public administration through teaching and research. The B.A. (honours) course is designed to equip the students with the foundation of the subject while opening for them channels to pursue higher studies as well as opt for competitive exams or other career. The course is also designed to keep in tune with the civil services syllabus of the competitive exams. The department has introduced M.A. in public administration in 2000 and M.A. in political science in 2014. The PG course in M.A. in public administration is first of its kind in the capital and is addressed largely to those interested in public administration, management and development areas. The M.A. programme of political science besides offering advanced knowledge in core areas of subject focuses on specific areas of study like foreign policy and paper with special emphasis on analytical aspects of discipline. After declaration as research centre in 2005, the department provided vibrant Ph.D programme throughout the year, besides regular teaching. The department hosts seminars, panel discussions, workshops, extension lectures and study tour for its students. It has a vibrant student association and an excellent departmental library. All these exclusive features of department are attracting the students with higher percentage to get admitted. The regular faculties are dedicated and well qualified from the premier universities and are registered research guiders as well. The department progressed gradually and various new courses and research programmes were initiated, enabling the department to carve a distinct niche and explore new frontiers in the academic world. This is proved by the award of director’s medal to students of political science in the year 2008-09, 2012-13 and 2015-16 and looking forward for more such appreciation.

1. Aligned syllabus of the department as per other prestigious universities and exams like BHU, DU and UGC NET which has helped students to clear NET along with JRF.

A good number of students & faculty completed different Online Certificate Courses of NPTEL -project of MHRD initiated by IITs.

Faculty members also registered as Mentor in NPTEL online courses to motivate and guide students.

4

Students of Political Science also grab opportunities in public sectors like Higher Education , Police, SSC etc.

Highlights

1

Students of Political Science in cultural and sports events has also increased many folds at all levels from state to international securing top positions as well.

2

The translation work of NPTEL online Course Module was done by the faculty.

3

More involvement in research work by faculties has increased the count of students to ten who are registered under three faculty members.

4

Online class teaching, assignment, presentation and tests were taken by all faculty members on Microsoft Teams and a good number of students had a hundred percent attendance.

Future Plans

1

Computer, Printer and high-speed Internet connectivity will be further increased in the Department's Research Centre.

2

Students will be taken on more field visits for a practical understanding of the various aspects of the Political Science subject.

3

The Departmental Library will be further enhanced both qualitatively & quantitatively.

4

There are also plan to facilitate access to more E- Journal to students.
